These masters are common in one thing and that is their departure from a specific place in the past towards living and awareness and reaching to historical now which is full of diverse viewpoints and approaches in art and life. This show provides the possibility to understanding the dominant discourse of the time (which is, from curator’s point of view, accompanying the nature rather than fighting with it) and leads into solidarity and will towards enriching the contemporary culture of Iran.
Passing through natural environment and going to cultural prospects is the main concern of this exhibition. Specifically, nature and climate as the main geographical elements of any specific location can be considered as platform for new cultural horizons. Throughout the history of contemporary thinking, paradigms of geography science through ideas of thinkers and expedition of critical approaches has investigated the relation of human and nature. Human destructions in the nature as a result of industrial development of locations of rich historical background and huge immigrations from one hand, and modernization of the societies on the other hand, has made this concept valuable for study. Art as a true reflector of mindset changing for responsible artists of a location, can be a good substrate for observation of such changes and questioning with the objective of providing solutions for environmental issues.
Collecting artistic masterpieces of artists with high virtue and diligence and reviewing the trend of change in their views towards themselves and their past is very exciting and useful for their curious audience. This aesthetical experience in the area of a huge cultural geography such as Iran, has happened in many locations in the world that have been orientalist or from another perspective; self-oriented. With day to day increase of the Iranian art and geographical vastness of the country, development of the theoretical viewpoints requires investigation in smaller geographical areas.
The current exhibition that opens on 22th June 2018 at the Sareban Gallery in Tehran, is intended to reproduce and extend the exhibition of “The geology and culture” held in the place of d’Angers Gallery in Semnan. This showcases a collection of paintings and sculptures created by artists originated from Semnan. The exhibition takes its name from historical region of Gomess or Komesh, of which Semnan was part of it, and the Silk Road paved its way from the midst of this region.
