A collection consists of 15 paintings themed as “the bewilderments of  Vincent” by  Parisa Sahafi Asl, an Iranian young artist is to be held at Shalman Art Gallery in Tehran on 25-30 September 2015. The motif of the exhibition is inspired and oriented around 15 of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings;  depicting an unpleasant contrast between conditions and ideals of the time Van Gogh lived and the 21st century. In fact the artworks would distinctly criticize the actual realities of the present day e.g. anger, infringements of human privacy, inclination towards absolute luxury, being superficial, deviation from human values, the widening gap between the poor the rich, Environmental degradation and addiction in its various forms consumerism, by exposing the viewers to an angle where they can behold and compare the discrepancies of the 19th and the 21st centuries.

Parisa Sahafi Asl in her works of art, lays stress on the idea that if Van Gogh was to live today what factors would drift him away from being Van Gogh. From the painter’s point of view Van Gogh symbolizes the unity of body and soul, the endless battle of virtue and vice and the unique emblem of purity, the elements modern human, who has little understanding of inner nature of objects, has entirely lost and in return resorted to rage to prove himself, turning to a thing devoid of reflection and free will trapped in the circle of consumerism.

These works of art are not meant to depict the Vincent’s bewilderments, but to reveal the ones of modern human in an era of leading forgetfulness.

Parisa Sahafi Asl was born in Ardebil – Iran in 1984 and holds MA degree in Research of Arts and has had exhibitions of her paintings in different cities so far. She is particularly infatuated by Van Gogh’s technique and frame of mind and has followed a school, she refers to as Neo-Vangoghism.
