The 111th edition of one of Germany’s oldest and largest art shows, appropriately named Die Grosse (The Big One), will take place at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf from March 8 through March 29.
Its unique feature is that it is curated by artists. For the 2015 edition, a jury of artists narrowed down 700 applicants to about 130 participants.
Offering artworks priced from €۱۰۰ to over €۶۰,۰۰۰, the fair attracts a broad spectrum of art collectors, as well as national and international museums and other institutions. This year’s edition attracted over 2,000 visitors from around the world to view artworks ranging from painting, sculpture, and photography to graphic design and new media.
Each year the exhibition hands out the Kunstpreis der Künstler (Artists’ Art Prize) and also the Förderpreis (Promotion Prize) for the promotion and support of young artists. For 2015 these prizes have been awarded to two Düsseldorf-based artists, Felix Droese and David Pollmann, respectively.
